During the summer period, the proposal will operate mainly as a cricket pavilion and media centre, whilst during the academic year, the proposed development will operate mainly as a University teaching faculty, allowing students access to 'real world' modern media facilities, sporting, hospitality and event management experiences. 25.04.2008 Fri, 25 Apr 2008 12:00:00 GMT http://www.smcalsop.com?19 AWARDS WIN AT CITYSCAPE ASIA 2008 http://www.smcalsop.com We are delighted to announce that at the 2008 Cityscape Real Estate Awards two of our developments, both owned by CapitaLand, were awarded top prizes. Commissioned by Croydon Council and developed following an extensive consultation exercise, Alsop's vision addresses the major issues of both the built environment and the public realm, and how these affect the economic and cultural health of the town. His proposals offer a revitalised cityscape that realises the community's aspirations and Croydon's potential to become London's third City. The key elements of the vision are centred around bringing residential accommodation into the heart of the town centre where it is currently lacking, revitalising Croydon's key retail offer which is central to Croydon's success, and subsequently repositioning the commercial/office market in central Croydon. In addition, a key feature of Alsop's proposal is to improve the quality of the public realm and alter the perception of Croydon's town centre by introducing additional green spaces and integrating existing underused green spaces. The vision aims to capitalise on the existing swell of developer interest in Croydon's town centre. <a href='http://www.croydon.ukcouncil.net/site/index.php#pp11177' target='_blank'>A webcast of the presentation can be viewed on the Croydon Council website. Exhibition at Chelsea Space http://www.smcalsop.com 'The occupation of Chelsea Space is a moment in a continuous thread of work. As such there is no beginning and no end ... on route to something else which might exist in the future.' -- Will Alsop For five weeks during September and October 2007, members of architect Will Alsop's studio team occupied CHELSEA space, creating a satellite space for thinking, meeting, talking, planning: generating and collating ideas for potential future events that may or may not materialise -- conversations, stories, public debates, walks, texts, manifestos, books, artworks, and possibly buildings or even cities. At CHELSEA space Alsop aimed to pose questions and introduce themes, inviting guests, friends, and colleagues to take part in a series of events and discussions. The visiting audience were encouraged to contribute ideas that were collated, edited, and then presented as chapter headings, lists, or sketches that grew throughout the duration of the exhibition. A series of starting points... Towards... (Text by Donald Smith) Mon, 01 Oct 2007 12:00:00 GMT http://www.smcalsop.com?12
